Gold: Barrick bids for Newmont. For Alphie the hostile acquisition does not reward the Canadian group.

Barrick Gold, one of the largest producers of gold in the world has once again decided to merge with Newmont Mining in a bid to create an industry behemoth. After talks fell through back in November 2018, Barrick Gold launched a fresh proposal of 17.8bn USD. Barrick is proposing a merger through a share swap (offering 2.5694 treasury shares for each Newmont stock) if successful, it would create the world's largest producers of precious metals, a 42bn USD giant.
